Creator stories: Creating helped me find my passion

We had the pleasure of chatting with SoSpoilt creator, Alex Karpovek of Alexkwillslay, who shares all things fashion, food, and lifestyle on her profile.

The New York native talks her journey to content creating, challenges she’s faced, hopes for the future, and how she found her passion.

Hi Alex! Tell us about your background and how you came to content creating?

I’m originally from Long Island, NY. In 2012 I graduated from The New York Institute of Technology with a Mass Communications Degree. After graduating I worked various full-time jobs within my field. I always felt like I should be doing something else with my career but I wasn’t sure what that ‘something’ should be! To be honest I felt lost and sad!

In 2017 I moved to LA. My whole idea was once I moved there and had a career, I would be happy because it was the change in environment I needed…then I discovered this wasn’t the case! I still didn’t feel passionate about my career! As I worked full time in LA I realised that maybe it’s not the jobs that I’m working, it’s ME!

I took a step back and did some self-analysis. I realised I enjoyed creating and needed to find a profession where I could fill this void.

I noticed that my social media content caught people’s attention (brands would reach out to me before I had a larger following), and decided to develop my career through social media while still working a full-time job!

Once I realised what I needed in order to make me feel happy, it was like everything fell into place. I had a passion to create – and I was motivated to flourish in the digital world. It felt effortless to me!

You specialise in a few different categories, which one do you feel most pulled towards, and why?

I feel equally passionate about fashion as I do with food and beverage! Styling an outfit really puts a smile on my face.

Fashion content gives my audience outfit ideas and tips. And being a helpful person puts even more of a smile on my face!

Food and beverage gives me a chance to express my creativity in a completely different light. It’s more of a challenge to me because you not only have the recipe component of it…you also have the aesthetics side to it! Like my fashion content, I enjoy being helpful, I’m giving complete recipes to my audience! Plus, I need challenges! I’m an Aries!

What do you love the most about what you do? 

There’s multiple things I enjoy! I love CREATING content, it’s so fun to plan and execute to see how my creatives unfold! I have my own schedule so I’m on my own time, baby! I’m my own boss! Could be dangerous right? But it’s not…I’m disciplined and can effectively manage my time.

What really gets me fired up (in a good way) is I could be a traveling nomad if desired! The opportunity for more ‘travel as I work’ experiences is something that I eventually hope to do one day.

The world is so beautiful and I want to fully explore it! 

Tell us some brands that you love? What is it you love about them?

Prosperity Candles – this brand has lovely candles and they support women refugees in the US, Revolve – they offer great pieces to add to your wardrobe with a large price range, there are affordable options as well as high-end luxury too. I’m a fan of both options! Why not mix the two and create an affordable/lux outfit fusion?!

Tell us why brands should collaborate with you?

I create content that adds value to others. I genuinely care about my audience. I don’t mindlessly post content for the sake of it; each piece of content has meaning!  🙂

What challenges have you experienced as a creator? How do you hope SoSpoilt will help with these?

Gaining vast exposure to brands. There’s so many great creators out there but many of them have been “partially discovered.” Hopefully, SoSpoilt will be able to help with more long-term partnerships! 

What are your goals for the future?

To expand as a digital creator and flourish as a self-made female. Traveling as much as I possibly can. I’ve always wanted to have residence in another country besides the US. As I travel I want to give back and help others in different countries, start a passion project. I’d like to explore the idea of investing in companies, land, and opening my own business. I definitely see myself as as becoming an entrepreneur.
